TOP 50 SINGLES OF 2004
Hey all...Pfork lists are due Friday, so I thought I'd post what is shaping up to be my final singles list for 2004. Great year for singles, so long as you didn't look to the radio, which didn't offer a heckuva lot of hits. My tastes in singles are in something of a transition period at the moment, so this list is a bit scattered. In the end I just went with my gut on most of this stuff. I won't comment on individual songs, but please use comments to applaud, criticize, point out omissions, and otherwise chat.
Drum roll please...the first OFFICIAL list of the year! I'll edit this post with any changes (a few of these have questionable "single" status, so a few might get knocked off for technicalities).
1. Annie – Heartbeat
2. Animal Collective – Who Could Win a Rabbit

EDIT: Listening to a few of these again, I decided to bump n' replace. Added: Beyonce - Naughty Girl (forgot about this one, but it's orsome), Lady Sovereign - Ch-Ching (this one seriously grew on me). Bumped: Ted Leo and Erlend Oye. Advanced placement: Black Leotard Front. Still debating Freeform Five and Estelle. Also struggling with the "Neighborhood #1" placement. The song is amazing, but does it work as a single? I'm almost tempted to exclude it entirely. But no, that would be impossible.
